Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania is home to Simba Sports Club, a professional football team.

After splitting from the Tanzania Giants in 1936, the new team, the Dar Young Africans, used the moniker Queens in honor of the Queen of England. The team’s name has evolved multiple times, starting with “Queens,” “Eagles,” and finally “Sunderland.” They changed their name to Simba in 1971. (Swahili for “Lion”).

Simba SC have competed in the CAF Champions League on several occasions, and have won 21 league crowns and 5 domestic cups. Because of their six CECAFA Club Championship titles, they are also among the most successful clubs in East Africa.

Tanzania Premier League

Tanzania’s premier professional football league is the Tanzania Mainland Premier League (Swahili: Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara), which is run by the Tanzania Football Federation. The “National League” was established in 1965. Its name was eventually changed to the “First Division Soccer League” then, in 1997, to the “Premier League.”

The Tanzanian Premier League (TPL) is played in a traditional double round-robin style, with each side playing each other twice, at home and away. Each match winner receives three points, a tie earns one point for both sides, and a defeat receives zero points.

Tanzanian teams play in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup as members of CAF.

Tanzania has risen in the CAF 5-Year Ranking due to recent strong results by TPL clubs in continental events. As a result, more league teams will be able to play on the European scene.

Simba Sc Home Stadium

Tanzania National Main Stadium, commonly known as Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, located in the Miburani sector of the Temeke District. It was built next to Uhuru Stadium, the old national stadium, and opened in 2007. It hosts big football matches such as the Tanzanian Premier League and the Tanzania national football team’s home fixtures.

With 60,000 seats, it is Africa’s eighth biggest stadium and Tanzania’s largest. The Tanzanian government owns it. Beijing Construction Engineering Group built the stadium for $56 million.

The inaugural derby between Simba S.C. and Simba S.C. drew a large audience. S.C. Young Africans at the stadium in Dar es Salaam in 2008 Both teams’ other league matches often draw minimal attendance.
