SASSA R350 Grant Payment To Commence Next Week 2022

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that payments from the R350 Grant will commence next week. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has revealed when they will begin processing payments for beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant.

The grant was allocated to beneficiaries who qualified for the old age pension and disability grants. Beneficiaries who qualify for the grant will receive a notification from SASSA on their registered mobile phone. The notification will contain an SMS code which beneficiaries can use to activate their account, complete their profile and view their payment schedule.

In April, Sassa said everyone who was benefiting from the SRD R350 grant would have to reapply for the crucial support mechanism.

Sassa has revealed that the new cycle of R350 grant payment will begin in mid-June 2022.

Sassa explained, “Payments for the new cycle of the special Covid-19 SRD grant (that is for applications received as from April 2022) will be paid from mid-June.”

The reason why beneficiaries had to reapply for the grant was due to a change in the regulatory framework under which the grant is provided to members of the public.

The qualifying criteria for the R350 grant also changed due to the change in regulatory framework.

One aspect that has changed is that a beneficiary of the R350 grant must not have an income of any sort of more than R350. The income threshold in previous interactions of the grant was R595.

The 350 grant payment days for the next week are scheduled as follows.

If you are a Sassa R350 grant recipient whose ID number includes the last three digits listed below, you can collect your R350 grant from the Post Office on the following dates:

14 Feb: 082 & 087
15 Feb: 083 & 088
16 Feb: 084 & 089
17 Feb: 080 & 085
18 Feb: 081 & 086

Beneficiaries should note that there are no grant payments at the Post Office on weekends. Sassa also doesn’t process the R350 grant on days that other SASSA grants are paid out.

The Post Office has reminded beneficiaries to collect their grant payment only once they have received an SMS from Sassa, to say that their grant is available.

Sassa SRD grant recipients can also choose to collect their grant payments at any Boxer and Pick n Pay store or via their personal bank accounts.

If you receive your R350 grant payment through the bank then there are no set payment dates and Sassa has stated that payments for the qualifying months will be paid.

Payment of R350 grant resumes

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has successfully started paying out the first batch of applicants for the Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant.

Applications for the grant, which is set at R350, opened on 6 August 2021. The grant is set to benefit unemployed citizens, most of whom lost their jobs when COVID-19 struck in 2020.

President Cyril Ramaphosa last month announced the reinstatement of the SRD grant, which is set to run until the end of March 2022.

In a statement on Wednesday, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, said by 18 August 2021, SASSA had received 8 931 375 applications from all nine provinces, of which 41% were from males and 59% from female applicants.

Letsatsi said grant payments are channelled through direct deposits into approved beneficiaries’ bank accounts, mobile money transfers through cell phones, and through the South African Post Office (SAPO).

He said the payment process for all those approved will start from 25 August 2021. However, he emphasised that not everyone should expect to be paid on the day, as this will be done over the coming days.

“To avoid overcrowding at post offices during payment of approved recipients, a joint strategy was put in place by SASSA and SAPO, where the last three digits of the identity numbers of each qualifying recipient will be used for payment collection on a specific day of the week. This will help minimise the spread of COVID-19 infections and allow for social distancing on pay days.

“Most importantly, if a person has not received a SMS from SASSA notifying them that the grant is available for collection, it means the grant is not available yet. In other words, every approved applicant must first wait for a SMS confirming that the grant is available,” Letsatsi explained.

He appealed to all successful recipients to cooperate with SASSA and “only go to the post office when you have indeed received a notification SMS to collect your grant”.

“Applicants are advised to avoid disappointment and not go to the post office to ‘just check if by any chance the grant is available’. The grant will not be available if it is not the day of the week when SAPO uses the last three digits of your ID number to pay.

“The function for all applicants to start checking their status on the system will be available later this week. The function has not been available, as SASSA has kept the channels open to cope with the high number of applications received. Any inconvenience this has caused is sincerely regretted,” Letsatsi said.

SAPO will not pay the R350 grant during public holidays, weekends and when normal monthly social grants payments take place. – SAnews.gov.za

New Sassa R350 Grant Requirements

South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, a holder of a special permit under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation; Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation; or an Asylum seeker with a valid section 22 permit or visa;
Between the ages of 18 and 60
Residing in the borders of South Africa
Registered on the Home Affairs database or on Sassa’s social grant database for individuals without ID documents.
Not living in a government Institution or subsidised institution
Not have an income more than R350
Not receiving covid-19 social Relief of Distress
Not receiving Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Benefits or National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) support or any other social grants distributed by Sassa

The R350 grant was originally introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic and was provided under the Disaster Management Act. When President Ramaphosa ended the State of Disaster, the grant had to be provided under alternative legislation. The grant is currently being provided under the Social Assistance Act.
