Short Courses Offered at University of Dodoma 2022-2023
UDOM offer different short course in which student can apply for certificate, diploma or Bachelor degree courses and programmes at University of Dodoma. The course will develop students’ personal growth, social-emotional skills (SES), ICT skills, essential study skills, and Learning skills which are important for university academic excellence.The UDOM Courses & Programmes is obtained from the official University of Dodoma (UDOM) website as approved by the Tanzania Commision for Universities (TCU).
Details About University of Dodoma
The University is located about 8 km east of the city centre, and is accessible by public transport, which is easily available from the city centre. Given the central location of Dodoma, UDOM is strategically positioned to serve applicants around the country and specifically Government and private sector employees living in Dodoma, who hitherto could not find training opportunities in the area. Such employees can comfortably utilize UDOM to combine work and study for their career advancement. Additionally, the geographical location and Dodoma weather render UDOM a convenient place for international students.

Short course on Higher Education Academic Success (HEAS)

This is the University Academic Success course. Therefore, it aims at aiding students’ skills to adapt to academic challenges they might face or they are facing at university. The course will develop students’ personal growth, social-emotional skills (SES), ICT skills, essential study skills, and Learning skills which are important for university academic excellence. Other skills expected to be discussed are career choices and career development. The course does not provide a qualification to enable students to join university but it is for aspiring, admitted (freshman) and continuing university students for their academic success. The main goal is academic excellence in university education.
In addition to that, the skills acquired will help students to excel in their careers or life after accomplishing their university program well.
The report regarding academic performance in Tanzania Universities indicates success and some challenges. The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) reports below standard academic performance as the major reason for undergraduate students’ dropout. For example, TCU (2020) indicated that out of 6,654 dropouts, 4173(63%) dropped due to below standard academic performance. Some research shows that the major concerns of the university students, especially first year students, are: time management, study skills, and adjusting to the rigors of college life. This course aims to address these challenges and allow them to excel in their university education.
Learning Outcomes
The course has been planned to equip learners with knowledge, skills, and attitudes of learning to
achieve excellence in university academics. The course will, therefore:
1. Equip participants with the social-emotional skills necessary for achieving university academic excellence.
2. Equip participants with personal development skills necessary for becoming excellent university students and in their life at large.
3. Engage students in ICT practical skills essential for university academic success.
4. Engaging students in mindfulness practice that can enhance their attention.
2.0. Target Group
The course is intended for aspiring and enrolled higher education students all over Tanzania.
Course Duration
The Short-Course will be conducted for 14 days (2 weeks) in two sessions as follows:
FIRST SESSION
Registration deadline: 30th Sept, 2022 and Reporting Date 31 September 2022
Course dates: 01st Oct – 15th Oct 2022.
SECOND SESSION
Registration deadline: 14th oct 2022 and Reporting Date 16 October 2022
Course dates: 17th Oct – 30th Oct 2022.

Tuition Fee Tsh. 300,000/= .
Accommodation fee for 15 days: Tsh 7500;

4.0. Mode of Delivery
The course will be delivered through workshops and practical sessions in computer labs.

It is expected that participants should be form six graduates aspiring for higher education and
continuing university undergraduate students.
